Have you ever slipped into a time pocket?
Many times.
Oh, really? Where are some of the places you’ve been?
Not so much where but when. Location remains the same, only the time changes.
Not very exciting then?
No great battles or other historical events. Just the mundane mostly. Except that one time.
Yes?
I suppose the most interesting one was when I saw the Neanderthal man chasing the dinosaur. It was a little disconcerting. I think my time slipped twice.
176
Why is it all so vast?
Think of it as a canvas.
Then it and we are merely the figments of some artist’s imagination.
Our grip on reality is tenuous at best.
What of all the clever things we say and the ingenious things we do?
What of it?
177
It’s almost over.
The best part anyway.
At least we’ve survived.
Only temporarily.
Then the end is near?
It would seem to be. But even now, we’re ready to start over if given half a chance.
It’s amazing, isn’t it, how gullible we are.
We believe because not believing is unacceptable.
What then?
Like the rain, we too will fall.
178
Why is the grass green?
Because of chlorophyll, they say.
But what do you say?
I say the grass is green because it is not blue.
But you can just as easily say the grass is green because it is not red.
That’s true.
179
Sleep.
Rest.
Dream.
What’s possible?
It’s possible to live and not to know.
Know what?
I don’t know. It’s just a possibility.
180
What do you think about the multi-sensory approach to human evolution?
I like it.
181
Who are we?
Many of us are nothing more than the sum of our five senses.
Is that bad?
It’s bad, but so far it hasn’t been terminal.
182
Is your karma in tune with the universe?
No, but it’s doing quite well in my little corner of the world.
183
What is greater, internal or external power?
Internal, because it decides whether or not you make the attempt for the external.
So great individuals do not always exert themselves?
Weak individuals almost always do.
184
The ‘soul is rich in lifetimes’.
What do you mean?
I don't mean ‘the soul charts human progress toward the divine’.
185
What is nonsense?
The idea that there is no end.
You mean eternity?
Eternity may exist but to try to explain is to talk nonsense.
The same with infinity?
Infinity makes slightly more sense because the universe is so vast. But even there the concept is on shaky ground.
Why?
When did the universe become infinite? How can you be infinite unless you start off infinite? But how can something begin infinite? To begin implies finiteness.
So the universe is finite?
From a larger point of view it is.
What lies outside the universe?
Eternity.
186
Whence the mountains?
The tops are covered with snow.
Always?
Forever cold at the top. Forever barren and distant.
What hope then to prosper?
To prosper is to live beyond our normal circumstances.
187
Who invented the cardboard box?
It was invented by mass hysteria.
Should it be admired?
No, and neither should it be used.
188
When did we lose our way?
When we couldn’t decide if light was particles or waves.
189
Is time an arrow?
Yes, an arrow straight and true.
What makes time so enigmatic?
Its ability to intrude upon our thoughts.
Does time really exist?
Only for those who walk upon the earth.
190
How do prophets see the future?
It unfolds before them on a vast linear landscape.
What do they do when millions die before their eyes?
They shut them.
191
What are we?
We’re the byproducts of cosmic debris.
What does that mean?
We’re trash.
192
Winners and losers; how do you know the difference?
The winners are those who are smiling at sunset. The losers are those who are smiling at dawn.
193
Will all go to heaven?
All will go but will they all stay?
I thought I was the one asking the questions.
You are.

Disappointment is a house in the country. Lonely but for an oak tree and a yapping dog.
